Is the Baseline right for your organization?

Choose the Baseline when:

  • Your team is already taking sustainability actions but cannot see the complete picture
  • Policies, supplier information, measurements or training records are spread across different people and systems
  • You need to know which requirements are already addressed and which need work
  • You want priorities before committing to a larger implementation pathway
  • You are preparing to implement the GSTC Tour Operator Standard
  • A buyer, partner or internal leader is asking for a clearer account of your sustainability work

Finding what is missing, incomplete or ready to use is part of establishing the starting point—not a reason to delay it.

GSTC — Global Sustainable Tourism Council

SustainAble is a GSTC-Recognized Standard for Tour Operators. The Baseline supports diagnosis and implementation planning; it is not an independent certification audit.

Replace assumptions with a clear starting point.

The SustainAble Baseline helps your team answer five practical questions.

  1. What is already in place?

Identify current policies, practices, responsibilities, measurements and learning that can support the work ahead.

  2. What can we document?

See where the organization has information or evidence that can be reviewed and organized.

  3. What is missing or needs attention?

Find gaps, unclear ownership and areas where current practice is not yet supported by suitable documentation.

  4. What should we do first?

Turn a long set of requirements into an initial sequence of priorities.

  5. What can we communicate clearly?

Use the Baseline Summary to explain the starting point without presenting unverified activity as independent certification.

What Academy access includes

Foundation Established progress recognition

After the defined Baseline completion requirements are met, Green My Experience records the Foundation Established milestone and can provide an approved recognition asset the organization may choose to share.

What Foundation Established means

A guided structure for seeing the complete picture.

  1. 01

    Purchase and receive access

Complete the US$395 purchase and receive the instructions for beginning the organizational assessment.

  2. 02

    Complete the assessment

Answer the questions using the organization's current practices and available information. Accuracy is more useful than trying to appear further ahead.

  3. 03

    Identify available documentation

Connect relevant policies, records, measurements and other information where requested. Missing information is recorded as part of the starting point.

  4. 04

    Receive the Baseline outputs

Use the Scorecard, gap analysis, documentation-status view, action plan and Baseline Summary to understand what should happen next.

  5. 05

    Choose how to implement

Continue independently, activate the system through Core, join an eligible Cohort or discuss Private support.

Start with what your organization already has.

Useful information may include:

  • Sustainability, environmental or social policies
  • Supplier standards, agreements or evaluation records
  • Energy, fuel, water, waste or purchasing information
  • Employee or guide training records
  • Guest communication and experience procedures
  • Community, conservation or local-economic initiatives
  • Assigned responsibilities, meeting notes or action plans
  • Information already provided to buyers, partners or other stakeholders

Do not delay because the material is incomplete. The Baseline is designed to show which information can be used, what needs strengthening and what does not yet exist.

Build understanding while you build the foundation.

The SustainAble Baseline includes Sustainability 101 for Tour Operators for one person from the organization.

The course introduces the core sustainability concepts and tourism context needed to interpret the Baseline and participate in the next stage of implementation.

Organizations that need additional course access can request current Green My Experience Academy pricing.

Foundation Established

Completing the defined Baseline requirements establishes the diagnostic foundation for future work:

  • Organizational assessment completed
  • Documentation status identified
  • Priorities established
  • Initial roadmap created

Green My Experience records this as Foundation Established. The recognition can be private, and an approved asset may be shared publicly if the organization chooses and follows the recognition-use rules.

Foundation Established is a Green My Experience progress recognition. It is not GSTC certification, an independent verification of every sustainability claim or a guarantee of a future certification decision.

Choose what happens after the Baseline.

If your organization moves from diagnosis into supported implementation, the eligible Baseline payment can be credited toward Core, Cohort or Private.

You do not need to purchase the Baseline separately before entering Cohort or Private. When it has not already been completed, it is completed during onboarding and is never skipped.

Continue within 90 days and apply what you paid.

Credit rules

  • Continue within 90 days after completing the Baseline.
  • The same organization must purchase both the Baseline and the implementation pathway.
  • The amount actually paid is credited. If the Baseline was discounted, only the discounted amount paid is credited.
  • The credit applies to Core, Cohort or Private.
  • The credit cannot be combined with another promotion.
  • The credit is non-transferable.
  • The credit has no cash value and is applied to the selected pathway rather than refunded separately.

The Baseline remains valuable as a standalone diagnosis. The credit simply creates a clear bridge when your organization is ready to continue.

Frequently asked questions

01Is the SustainAble Baseline required?

Yes. Every organization completes the Baseline because it establishes the starting point for implementation. It can be purchased first or completed during Cohort or Private onboarding when it is included. It is never skipped.

02Is the Baseline the same as the Free Readiness Check?

No. The Free Readiness Check uses 7 high-level questions to provide a quick initial view. The Baseline is the complete organizational assessment and produces the Scorecard, gap analysis, documentation-status view, initial action plan and Baseline Summary.

03Do we need all our evidence before starting?

No. Use the information currently available. Identifying what is missing, incomplete or needs review is part of the Baseline's purpose.

04Does the Baseline include the Green My Experience Platform?

The Baseline provides the complete diagnosis and its defined outputs. Green My Experience Platform access is included in Core, on an annual subscription. Platform access for guided programs is described in the relevant Cohort, Private or Enterprise agreement.

05Is Academy learning included?

Yes. The Baseline includes Sustainability 101 for Tour Operators for one person. Additional licenses use the current Green My Experience Academy pricing.

06When does the 90-day credit period begin?

It begins when the Baseline is completed—not when it is purchased. The amount actually paid can be credited when the same organization enters Core, Cohort or Private within that period, subject to the published rules.

07Does Foundation Established mean our organization is certified?

No. It is a Green My Experience progress recognition for completing the defined Baseline foundation. Independent GSTC certification requires a separate audit and decision by a GSTC-accredited certification body.

08Does Green My Experience award GSTC certification?

No. Green My Experience provides the methodology, tools, learning and implementation support. A GSTC-accredited certification body separately conducts the independent audit and makes the certification decision.

09Are independent audit and certification fees included in the Baseline?

No. Those third-party services occur later and are contracted and paid for separately by the operator.

10Can the Baseline replace a greenhouse-gas inventory?

No. The Baseline is a sustainability diagnosis. The initial emissions estimate included in Core and Cohort is a separate basic planning output and is not intended for external reporting.

Move from scattered sustainability activity to a documented starting point, practical priorities and an initial plan.
